Banwell Juniors versus Cheddar Valley Dynamoes – 4 – 1

Banwell played their last game of the season and finished with a win.  Defenders Jack Hornigold, Ash Pierson, Callum Sully and Daz Newman squandered any chances that Cheddar had and midfielders Adam Jones, Tyler Griffiths, Jake Betts and Cam Gray all made the effort to score but were beaten by Cheddar’s goalie.  Jack Hornigold came off injured within the first ten minutes and sub Taylor Rampton came on and played another excellent game.  Andy Vowles scored his final hat trick of the season and Man of the Match Sam Coates saw his chances saved.  Goalkeeper Sean Royce had very little to do this match but ensured he was on form when needed.

Adam Jones scored another fine goal after some good tactical play by Banwell and they were unlucky to concede the one goal scored by Cheddar.  Referee Tim Holden had another good game and allowed to game to flow.

Banwell Juniors Under 14’s versus Kewstoke Juniors

Banwell started this match in dominant fashion and were unlucky to lose. Defenders Jack Hornigold, Harry Lewis, Callum Sully and Ash Pierson made it difficult for Kewstoke from the start and protected Man of the Match Sean Royce well in goal.

Midfielders Cameron Gray, Adam Jones, Daz Newman, Jake Betts and Tyler Griffiths piled on the pressure from the start and lone striker Andy Vowles proved a handful.

Goalie Royce made some excellent saves and kept Banwell well and truly in the game.  Conceding two goals in the first half Banwell battled hard to regain control and subs Taylor Rampton & Sam Coates came on and caused problems.  Andy Vowles scored another fine goal from outside the area in the second half and after making a tactical change Ash Pierson was put up front with Andy Vowles to try to get the equaliser. Each and every player battled hard to get the one goal needed to take away a point from the game but it was not to be.  Congratulations go to Kewstoke after winning the League only the day before and referee Tim Holden kept good control from the start.

Banwell Juniors Under 14’s versus Hutton Juniors

Banwell again started in dominant fashion and were unlucky to concede the only goal of the match.  As always defenders Jack Hornigold, Harry Lewis, Callum Sully and Man of the Match Ash Pierson proved difficult to beat and goalie Sean Royce was rarely troubled in this match but still managed to put in some excellent saves.

Midfielders Jake Betts, Daz Newman, Tyler Griffiths and Adam Jones kept the ball on the floor to frustrate Hutton and strikers Cam Gray and Andy Vowles looked dangerous at times.

The goal conceded just before half time was unfortunate and did not reflect the dominance of the team but Banwell came out after half time looking for the equaliser.  Subs Taylor Rampton & Sam Coates came on to create chances squandered and again battled hard in their respective positions.  Well done to referee Steve Eastman who did a fine job and good luck goes to Hutton in the Lewin Cup Final and League Cup Final.

Banwell Juniors Under 14’s versus Burnham Utd

Banwell knew this game was going to be hard with only 10 men on the pitch but at the end of the game, despite losing, it was Banwell who could hold their heads up having scored 3 goals in the second half against a stunned Burnham.

Defenders Ash Pierson, Jack Hornigold, Callum Sully and Daz Newman put in a good performance keeping the ball forward and dealing with the Burnham strikers when called on.  Goalkeeper Sean Royce had more to do this game but handled the pressure well and could not be faulted for any of goals conceded. Midfielders Adam Jones, Cameron Gray, Jake Betts and Man of the Match Taylor Rampton made it difficult for Burnham to play the ball and Andy Vowles found himself unmarked at times as Burnham pushed forward.  In the second half a free kick resulted in Jack Hornigold opening the scoring with a brilliant header and this was soon followed by and long range shot by Callum Sully which found the back of the net.

An unfortunate decision by the referee gave Burnham a penalty after much dramatics but this did not waver Banwell’s enthusiasm and led to Burnham, having relaxed, to make a mistake in leaving a ball presumed to be going wide for Andy Vowles to add to his scoreline.

Banwell Juniors Under 14’s versus Portishead Juniors

Despite losing midweek Banwell were keen to make amends and pressured Portishead from the start.  Defenders Harry Lewis, Ash Pierson, Jack Hornigold and Callum Sully kept the opposition at bay and midfielders Adam Jones, Daz Newman, Sam Coates, Taylor Rampton and Man of the Match Jake Betts piled on the pressure to keep possession.

Striker Andy Vowles put in a good performance despite being marked by 3 players and goalkeeper Sean Royce was rarely troubled.  Andy Vowles netted the only standing goal of the game after Jack Hornigold had two goals disallowed due to offside. Referee Christian Atwell did a good job and allowed to game to flow.

Banwell Juniors Under 14’s versus Kewstoke Juniors

Banwell lost their first League match since September in this midweek game which saw Kewstoke finding it difficult to take full control.  Goalkeeper Sean Royce had an early save to make and was unlucky to concede the 2 goals scored.  Defenders Callum Sully, Ash Pierson, Man of the Match Jack Hornigold & Harry Lewis kept up with Kewstoke striker Jake Fisher and kept him at bay.  Midfielders Adam Jones, Jake Betts, Tyler Griffiths & Daz Newman did well to keep the ball forward and strikers Andy Vowles & Sam Coates did all they could to score.  Banwell conceded a goal in the first half and battled well to even the scoring. In the second half Cameron Gray came on and caused problems for the Kewstoke defence.  The second goal from Kewstoke  was a goal mouth scramble which Banwell were unlucky to concede.  Ten minutes from time Banwell did score but a dubious decision called it offside. Special mention to referee Tommy Major who controlled the game well from the start.

Banwell Juniors Under 14’s versus Backwell Athletic

Banwell would admit they didn’t truly get into this game and were against a dominant Backwell Athletic which saw Banwell lose another midweek match.  Defenders Jake Betts, Callum Sully, Harry Lewis & Jack Hornigold struggled to keep up with a quick Backwell striker but all played well regardless. Midfielders Ash Pierson, Daz Newman & Adam Jones did well to try to keep Backwell at bay and, fresh back from a serious injury, Taylor Rampton did an excellent job on the wing. Strikers Sam Coates & Man of the Match Andy Vowles did all they could to score but found themselves up against a determined Backwell defence.  Sean Royce was unfortunate to concede goals in this match and defended his goal area well.  And again Cameron Gray was feisty on the wing.  Special mention to Andy Vowles & Harry Lewis who played this game despite representing their county schools team earlier in the afternoon and did an excellent job.  Mention also to referee Sam Davies who did well.

Banwell Juniors Under 14’s versus Berrow Boys 14-0

Having been knocked out of the League Cup the week before Banwell wanted to get back to their winning ways and did this in good fashion winning 14 – 0 against Berrow Boys.  Missing Taylor Rampton after an injury in the week the scoring was opened by Jack Hornigold in a first half that was end to end.  Banwell soon took control and it wasn’t long before Man of the Match Daz Newman scored the first of his 3 goals, followed by Tyler Griffiths who also scored a hat trick.

With a new formation Jake Betts was moved to a midfield position and Ash Pierson was moved back to defender and they adapted well to their new position with Jake Betts scoring his first goal of the season.  Sam Coates had a handful of near misses and saw some accurate shots saved by the Berrow goalkeeper and was unlucky not to score.  Harry Lewis & Callum Sully played some good tactical play between them and were a handful for the Berrow defence.

Just before the start of the second half Cam Gray came on and netted a further 2 goals for his sheet this season.  Adam Jones did some good passing moves to play forward to Andy Vowles who continued his scoring with another 2 goals to tott up and in a moment of madness by Managers Chalkie & Deano Sean Royce swapped the goalkeepers shirt with substitute goalkeeper Ash Pierson and scored his first 2 goals of the season. A good all round performance that made choosing man of the match a difficult decision. The boys would like to wish Taylor a speedy recovery. Referee Mark Coles did well to keep the game flowing and the score line does not reflect how well Berrow Boys played.

Rovers

Congratulations To Banwell JFC Under 8s Players who played their first match in Cwmbran South Wales for Bristol Rovers North Somerset Development Centre

Hutton Juniors versus Banwell Juniors Under 14’s 3 – 2

Banwell started this match in dominant fashion and was unlucky to lose in a game where the scoreline did not reflect Banwells dominance in this Semi Final league cup clash.

Defenders Harry Lewis, Jack Hornigold, Jake Betts & Man of the Match Callum Sully proved difficult to break through in the first half and goalie Sean Royce was rarely troubled and it wasn’t long before Cameron Gray kicked the ball from way outside the area to see it land in the top corner.  Now rattled Hutton worked hard to regain control and equalised 10 minutes before the end of the first half.  Midfielders Daz Newman, Tyler Griffiths, Ash Pierson & Adam Jones worked hard to keep the ball forward but after conceding a corner Hutton managed to take the lead from a goal mouth scramble.  Andy Vowles found himself a marked man and had his attempts stifled but Banwell battled hard to keep control seeing chances saved or go just wide of the goal.  During the second half Banwell were unlucky to concede another goal but after making a tactical decision to forfeit a defender for a striker soon scored their second goal with Andy Vowles hitting the back of the net.  Sam Coates & Taylor Rampton came on as substitutes and battled well to try to claim the equaliser but it was not to be. Special mention goes to the assistant referees on the day Sam Davies & David Long.

Banwell Juniors – Under 14’s  V Nailsea Utd 1-0  Cup Round 3

Banwell progressed to the Semi Finals of the League Cup with a 1-0 win against fellow first division side Nailsea Utd.  They knew they had to be strong having lost to Nailsea at the beginning of the season and missing some key players again.

They started the match in dominant fashion and Harry Lewis scored early on from a practised set peace from a corner to put them in the lead.  Fresh back from injury and in a new position man of the match Adam Jones played his first full match of the year and justly deserved the accolade creating many chances for Banwell.  Goalie Sean Royce was called on to make some fine and daring saves and kept Banwell in the game.  Defenders Jack Hornigold, Harry Lewis & Callum Sully played their part in keeping the ball forward and Nailsea at bay in a game which called on team effort and stamina.

Midfielders Ash Pierson, Daz Newman, Adam Jones, Tayler Rampton & Tyler Griffiths worked well together and strikers Sam Coates & Andy Vowles saw chances saved by the Nailsea goalie.  Tyler Griffiths was unlucky to have a goal disallowed due to a foul on the goalkeeper but the determined Banwell side played with true team spirit and excellent team play to the final whistle.  Close to the end of the match Daz Newman made an excellent clearance off the goal line to deny Nailsea their equaliser and although Adam Jones walked away with the accolade the whole team deserved Man of the Match.  Special mention to referee Stan Slocombe who had a good game.

Banwell Juniors 2 – Clevedon Utd 2 (Under 14’s)

Banwell started this game missing some key players and knew this would be a hard match from their last meeting but never the less put their all in as always.

Daz Newman opened the scoring for Banwell only a matter of minutes after conceding a goal.  The midfield set up of Tyler Griffiths, Ash Pierson, Daz Newman and Man of the Match Taylor Rampton worked hard playing up hill for the first half.  Strikers Andy Vowles & Sam Coates struggled to get past the strong Clevedon defence and defenders Jack Hornigold, Jake Betts, Harry Lewis & Callum Sully were called on with end to end football from start to finish.  Just before half time Banwell conceded their second goal but kept their heads up knowing they would have the wind and pitch advantage in the second half.

Sean Royce put in some fine saves and after a long range kick from the goal area the ball was played forward for Andy Vowles to score from a tight angle having battled well to keep the ball.

Having again only the 11 players and no subs to call on Banwell played with true team spirit and kept going to the end on a tough pitch.  Again Manager Paul and the Clevedon boys & parents were a credit to their Club.  Referee Joshua Sims also had a good game.

Banwell Juniors Under 14’s versus Isle of Wedmore – Cup Round 2 – 6 - 1

Banwell started this game slowly following the Christmas break but soon found themselves in scoring form when Tyler Griffiths scored the first goal of the New Year.  But Wedmore were not to be beaten and responded with a goal soon after.  Following this Banwell put in a team performance with good passing and defending which proved difficult and cumbersome on a pitch suffering after the rain from the day before.  But defenders Harry Lewis, Jack Hornigold, Callum Sully and Man of the Match Jake Betts showed their strength in warding off any further attacks.  Midfielders Daz Newman, Cameron Gray, Ash Pierson & Tyler Griffiths worked hard together to overcome the pitch problems by using the wings to full advantage.  It wasn’t long before Andy Vowles worked his way through to score his first goal of the match and shortly afterwards Sam Coates followed this up with also his first of the match.  Ash Pierson had a shot deflected by the Wedmore goalie who was well on form for the conditions and this fell for Andy Vowles to complete his scoring for the day.

Callum Sully found himself unmarked and able to run through the midfield to score and this was followed by another goal for Sam Coates. During the dying moments goalie Sean Royce came up for the last corner and was unlucky not to score his first goal.

With a pitch which deteriorated quickly during the match it has to be said the Wedmore goalie put in a superb performance saving many goals and he should be congratulated for this along with all the players. Referee Derek Lambert put in a good performance and allowed the game to flow.

Woodspring Junior League

Banwell Juniors Under 14’s versus Holway Utd – Lewin Cup Round 3

Banwell played in the Lewin Cup Round 3 against Holway Utd and were unlucky to lose 4-2.  The first half was end to end with both sides having chances but to no avail.  In the second half Banwell were unlucky to concede two goals in quick succession one being kicked out of goalie Sean Royce’s hands.  Following this Andy Vowles ran through the midfield and passed the ball to Sam Coates who neatly laid it into the back of the net.  Now playing with more urgency the game continued end to end with defenders Callum Sully, Jack Hornigold & Man of the Match Harry Lewis keeping Holway at bay.  Adam Jones, Ash Pierson, Tyler Griffiths & Cameron Gray played some superb balls forward and Daz Newman ran through the pitch expertly playing the ball to Sam Coates who had it saved by the Holway keeper. It wasn’t long before Holway scored their third goal and Andy Vowles found himself playing midfield & striker but proved more than a match for Holway’s style of play.  Taylor Rampton came on and created some chances for the strikers and kept the ball forward but it wasn’t long before Holway scored another goal which had been kicked out of the goalie’s hands.  Banwell now started to dominate and showed their strength was their fitness and shortly before time Andy Vowles scored after a good run & pass by Tyler Griffiths.  Despite this loss the Banwell lads kept their heads up throughout the game and played with true team spirit

Banwell Juniors Under 14’s versus Portishead Juniors 4 -2

From the start Banwell dominated with Andy Vowles scoring in the first 2 minutes. The new defence line up of Jack Hornigold, Callum Sully & Harry Lewis as always put in a good performance and made it difficult for Portishead to get close to goal which left goalie Sean Royce with little to do on a cold and wet day.  The second goal came from a pass from Man of the Match Andy Vowles to find the feet of Taylor Rampton who knocked it into the back of the net.  Portishead managed to score a goal from outside the area and shortly after Adam Jones ran between two defenders to score the third Banwell goal of the game.  In the second half Sam Coates came on to cause the Portishead defence problems and did some good passing to create more chances for Banwell.  Daz Newman, Tyler Griffiths & Ash Pierson played their socks off in midfield and had chances to score themselves.  An unfortunate attempt to clear the ball led to Banwell conceding an own goal but only made the players more determined to win this game.  When Cameron Gray came on as striker it was only going to be a matter of time before he found the goal and this he did 10 minutes from time with a good ball played forward by Tyler Griffiths for Cameron to chip the Portishead goalkeeper who was way off his line.  This result should now put Banwell in the second place position of Division One. Tom Houston refereed the game and controlled it well from the off.

Banwell Juniors Under 14’s versus Cheddar Valley Dynamoes 6-1

Banwell knew this match was going to prove more difficult that the previous weeks win over Cheddar in the League Cup.  The match stayed at 0-0 with end to end football and squandered chances for Banwell until Cheddar took the lead.  Following this a determined Ash Pierson ran through the pitch and crossed for Man of the Match Cameron Gray to get a deserved goal.  After this Banwell settled into the game and not long after Cameron Gray scored his second goal after beating four defenders.  Tyler Griffiths & Jack Hornigold played their part on the wing crossing the ball and playing it forward as well as having their own chances at goal and Adam Jones, Taylor Rampton & Sam Coates played their part in setting up goals.  The third goal came from a cross which found the quick foot of Daryl Newman giving the Cheddar goalie no chance.  Defenders Callum Sully, Harry Lewis & Jake Betts also had their chances at goals and as always defended excellently leaving goalkeeper Sean Royce with very little to do. Andy Vowles scored his first but not last hat-trick of the season and played well as always. Referee Tom Young did another fine job in allowing the game to flow.

Banwell Juniors 3 Worle Juniors 2 (Lewin Cup Round 2)

Banwell started this game strongly with goals coming from Cameron Gray and Taylor Rampton early in the first half but Worle fought back well to level the score from a free kick and penalty.  Sam Coates, Daryl Newman, Adam Jones, Ash Pierson & Cameron Gray worked well together to create chances which the Worle goalkeeper handled well. The defence of Harry Lewis, Callum Sully & Jake Betts were kept busy along with man of the match goalie Sean Royce. The chances were evenly matched in the second half and a free kick awarded to Banwell allowed Tyler Griffiths to find the back of the net giving them the lead. A truly entertaining match for those watching with referee Tommy Major doing a fine job controlling the game.

Banwell Juniors 8 Cheddar Valley Dynamoes 0 (Cup Round)

Banwell controlled this game from the start and came away winners of this round of the League Cup.  The scoring started with Jack Hornigold hitting the ball from outside the area giving the Cheddar goalie no chance.  This was followed by goals from Ash Pierson, man of the match Daryl Newman & Taylor Rampton. Early in the second half Jack Hornigold scored his second and Callum Sully opened his scoring sheet for the season.  Daryl Newman then scored his second after a fine cross by Cameron Gray who then managed to score his long awaited goal of the day.  Defenders Harry Lewis & Jake Betts covered well at the back and also had chances at goal and goalie Sean Royce made some good saves when needed. Sam Coates did a fine job up front playing the ball forward and helping to set up chances and Adam Jones & Tyler Griffiths saw their shots well saved by the Cheddar goalie. Referee Tom Young allowed the game to flow and Cheddar Valley Dynamoes should be proud that they battled to the end and never allowed the scoreline to let their heads drop.

Under 14’s Banwell Juniors 3 – Clevedon Utd 2

Clevedon started this match fast paced and found themselves up 2-0 early in the first half their second goal a clear contender for goal of the season.  Banwell battled on with Andy Vowles & Daryl Newman battling to find the goal.  Tyler Griffiths, Cameron Gray, Taylor Rampton, Jack Hornigold & man of the match Ash Pierson kept pushing forward to see goals cleared off the line and hit the cross bar.  Defenders Jake Betts, Captain Callum Sully & Harry Lewis had to work hard to keep Clevedon at bay and Sean Royce yet again kept Banwell in the game with excellent goal keeping.  A change in position putting Sam Coates up front put Clevedon under pressure but still both teams battled hard.

Early in the second half Tyler Griffiths scored an excellent goal from a free kick and soon after scored his second from the corner flag.  Banwell now felt they were in the game and Daryl Newman moved to the wing position and battled hard to keep the pressure on Clevedon.  The third goal came shortly before the end of the game when a clearance off the line came out for Ash Pierson to fire into the back of the net.  Referee Georgia Coles had another excellent game and Banwell would like to thank Clevedon Manager Paul & parents for their camaraderie throughout the game.  An excellent game by both teams played with good spirit throughout

Under 14’s Banwell Juniors 3 – Backwell Athletic 1

Banwell Juniors started this game with more confidence and left Backwell shellshocked with their excellent ball control and passing.  The strong defence of Callum Sully, Harry Lewis, Jake Betts & fast & furious Jack Hornigold kept Backwell away from goal and the midfielders of Ash Pierson, Taylor Rampton, Adam Jones, & Man of the Match Tyler Griffiths kept the ball firmly in the oppositions half.  Cameron Gray & Daryl Newman caused problems on the wings and Sam Coates & Andy Vowles were on form up front. Keeper Sean Royce was rarely troubled but made some confident saves when called on and the first goal came from an excellent free kick taken by Tyler Griffiths followed by a second from Sam Coates.  Backwell scored quickly after but in the second half Andy Vowles stunning strike put away the third to finish the scoreline.  Referee Robert Whitham had an excellent game.

Banwell Juniors Under 14’s versus Nailsea Utd 1 – 4

Banwell Juniors started this game slowly and inevitably paid the price. Cameron Gray & Sam Coates in their starting debut for the team did well in their first game and created chances which did not come to fruition.  Daryl Newman & Taylor Rampton coped well with the change in position during the second half.  Tyler Griffiths, Ash Pierson, Jack Hornigold & Man of the Match Adam Jones also gave it their all and the defenders of Harry Lewis, Callum Sully & Jake Betts worked hard at the back.  Keeper Sean Royce made some excellent saves throughout the game.  The first goal came just before half time and early in the second half Nailsea went 2-0 up but a defensive error allowed Cameron Gray to cross the ball in for Harry Lewis to slot into the net. A poorly awarded penalty gave Nailsea their 3rd and caused frustration for Banwell and a 4th goal followed soon afterwards. Again the score does not give a true reflection of the hard work of the Banwell team who look forward to the return game on home ground.

Match Report – Banwell Juniors versus Berrow Boys (Under 14’s) 7-0

Banwell Juniors started this match in dominant fashion and continued throughout to win 7-0.  Man of the Match Ash Pierson opened the books this season with a goal from 20 yards out followed by another from Jack Hornigold having run from his own half.  Taylor Rampton scored a fine goal and at half time Banwell looked the better side.  In the second half Berrow fought back with a spirited performance but Banwells Andy Vowles proved too much scoring early in the second half. The Banwell defence of Jake Betts, Harry Lewis and cool & calm Callum Sully rarely allowed keeper Sean Royce to handle the ball and midfielders Adam Jones, Tyler Griffiths & Taylor Rampton put in yet another good performance. Daryl Newman kept his usual pressure on the Berrow keeper giving Jack Hornigold, Andy Vowles & Taylor Rampton the opportunities to score their second goals. Referee Georgia Coles had another good game and Banwell would like to welcome Sam Coates & Cameron Gray who should be making their debut in the next match.

Banwell Juniors 0 versus Hutton Juniors 1 – Under 14’s

This midweek game was strong from the start as both teams showed determination and a will to win.  It looked a very even game until Banwell winger Jack Hornigold twisted his knee and had to be taken off the pitch leaving Banwell with just 10 men.  Captain Adam Jones took the place of Jack in a position he was unfamiliar with but showed his excellence.  A lucky open goal from Hutton put them in the lead just as Jack Hornigold returned to the pitch. Tyler Griffiths made some surging runs on the left and put in some great crosses only to have them cleared by a good defence.  Ashley Pierson picked up an injury towards the end leaving it difficult for him to run to his full potential and Banwells strong defence of Jake Betts, Harry Lewis and Callum Sully made it difficult for Hutton all through the game.  Any long range shots were expertly handled by Man of the Match goalie Sean Royce.  Taylor Rampton & Daryl Newman also put in a strong performance keeping the ball forward but Andy Vowles was finding it difficult to score in this match. Special mention should go to referee Georgia Coles who kept the game flowing throughout.

With a squad of just 11 players Banwell Juniors are looking for 3 new players to sign, if interested training is at Wyvern school 7:30 – 8:30 on Thursdays or ring Dean (01934 633523) or Chalkie (07711 229068) any player signing is guaranteed a game.

Banwell Juniors 0 versus Burnham Utd 2  Under 14’s

Another strong performance was put in by the 11 man strong team of Banwell Juniors who made it difficult for Burnham from the off.  Yet again the strong defence of Callum Sully, Jake Betts & and an unwell Harry Lewis proved difficult to break through leading to frustration for Burnham Utd. Ashley Pierson, now finding his form after a season in goal, proved hard work for Burnham playing some good balls through and using his pace & stamina to Banwells advantage.  Man of the Match Tyler Griffiths proved a handful for Burnham with his runs forward and excellent ball control. Taylor Rampton & Daryl Newman had another good game and Daryl caught Burnham off guard to shoot only to see it saved by the Burnham goalie. Jack Hornigold was in excellent form and had managed to shrug off his knee injury from the midweek game. Adam Jones put in yet another excellent performance and Andy Vowles found himself marked by 2 defenders aware of his scoring potential but 15 minutes from time the first goal came for Burnham closely followed by a second in a goal mouth scramble.  Sean Royce made some excellent saves throughout the game and it would be fair to say that the final score does not truly reflect the dominance of Banwell throughout the game. Mention should go to referee Sheridan Farrow who handled the game well throughout.
